Mileage Limit
Mileage Limit refers to the maximum number of miles that a car rental company allows a customer to drive within a specified rental period without incurring additional charges. It is typically expressed as a mile-per-day limit, usually 100 to 150 miles, indicating the maximum number of miles a customer may drive within a 24-hour period.
To provide flexibility, car rental companies may offer an extra mileage purchase option. This option allows customers to pre-purchase additional miles beyond the mileage limit at an additional cost. For instance, if a customer knows they will be driving more than the allotted mileage per day, they can pay for extra miles upfront to avoid overage fees later.
Should the customer exceed the mileage limit without purchasing extra miles, they would be charged for each mile driven beyond the limit. The over-mileage fee is typically calculated based on the number of extra miles driven during the rental period.
The price per mile for overage charges will vary from company to company, though it is typically a fixed rate. For example, if the price per additional mile is $3.00 and a customer drives an additional 50 miles beyond the mileage limit, they would be charged an extra $150 ($3.00 x 50).
It is important to note that mileage limits, extra mileage purchase options, over mileage fees, and price per mile will all vary between different car rental companies. It’s advisable that the customer knows the specific terms and conditions of your mileage policy.
